I am Paul Stam from Apex. I thought it would be interesting for the very first forum of the campaign to be reminded of first principles.

From the internet you find Magna Charta of 1215 and learn about the orgins of some of our laws.

For example, “Proposition 13” originates in Section 25 “Every county shall remain at its ancient rent without increase.

In a day when some litigation requires years to complete Section 40 provides “To no one will we sell, to no one deny or delay, right or justice”.

In a day when the principles of free trade are attacked from the right and the left Section 41 provides “All merchants may enter or leave England unharmed and without fear, by land or water, for purposes of trade, free from all illegal exactions in accordance with ancient and lawful customs.

In a day when we elect appellate judges Section 45 provides “We will appoint as justices those who “know the law of the realm and are minded to keep it well.”

To show that environmental issues go back centuries Section 47 provides “All forests that have been created in our reign shall at once be disafforested.”

In a day when Congress and the President are often at an impasse imagine this creative solution to separation of powers (freely paraphrased). Section 61 provides “If we, or our Attorney General offend in any respect against any man and the offense is made known to..the Senate they shall come to us or to the Attorney General – to declare it and claim immediate redress. If we or the Chief Justice, make no redress within 40 days the Senate may distrain upon and assail us in every way possible, with the support of the whole community of the land, by seizing our castles, lands, possessions, or anything else saving only our own person and that of the First Lady and our children, until they have secured such redress as they have determined upon. Having secured redress they may then resume their normal obedience to us.”

I welcome your questions.
